About Andrew

After studying graphic design and working as a freelance graphic designer in the early 80’s, I studied with the Open College of Art.

Having found a liking specifically for carving in stone, I’m a frequent visitor to the Portland Sculpture Trust, where I carve in Portland stone.

After discovering a passion for stone carving, I started taking on commissions, which could be absolutely anything. All of my commissions start with a small clay maquette, which can be changed until the client is happy with the final design. This design would then be hand carved in the material of the client’s choosing, after a consultation with myself about the best material for the piece.

I was asked by a friends relative who was recently bereaved if I would create her loved ones headstone. As a Welshman, she wanted Welsh slate which was sourced from Blaenau ffestiniog. At that point in time I knew not only was this my passion but my future career.

My work is now a mixture of personal projects, client sculpture commissions and memorials. We’re hoping to display various pieces at exhibitions in the future.
